10 Years of Oxtail Recordings

Oxtail Recordings returns to our hometown to celebrate 10 years of ambient noise and broken songs, with a showcase of label artists and NYC DIY legends.

More Eaze
more eaze is the project of composer/multi-instrumentalist mari maurice. her work touches upon myriad genres and often explores themes of gender, intimacy, identity, perception, and the mundane. resident advisor categorizes maurice’s work as “accomplished ambient pop” and the quietus has said that her work “unearths a raw poignancy in what can often be a coldly academic field.”

MF Clarke
Melissa F. Clarke is a Brooklyn based interdisciplinary artist whose work often employs generative and interactive custom-programmed environments. In much of her work she combines research and data into multimedia installations, interactive web pieces, generative video and sound sculptures, performances and printed work. Since 2009 Clarke has been working with bathymetric and other geophysical data sets studying glaciers and the under water landscapes they shaped. Melissa’s recorded debut Arrays will be released on Oxtail Recordings on September 20.

Matthew Ryals
Matthew Ryals is a synthesist + composer-improviser based in New York, NY. Primarily working with a modular synthesizer, his music encompasses improvisation, generative composition, chance, cybernetics, unfixed forms, and experiments in manifold archiving. Tiny Mix Tapes has described his music as “filter[ing] the emotion of the human experience through the cold circuitry of electronics”.

Matthew D. Gantt
Matthew D. Gantt is an artist, composer, and educator focused on sound in virtual spaces, generative systems facilitated by idiosyncratic technology, and digital production presets as sonic readymades. He worked as a studio assistant to electronic music pioneer Morton Subotnick, and has been an active participant in the international creative community and countless DIY venues across North America.

Mike Nigro
Mike Nigro is a musician and label operator based in Sydney, Australia (previously Brooklyn, NY and Newark, Delaware). His solo practice and collaborations draw inspiration from the minimalists, early synthesizer pioneers, and contemporary experimental underground. His work explores the spaces between musicality and noise; movement and stasis; synthetics and organics. He’s also the founder of Oxtail Recordings, a record label focusing on “ambient noise and broken songs,” which Bandcamp Daily says has“cemented its place as a forward-thinking resource for a community of left-field musicians”.

Robot Karaoke Cage Match

ROBOT KARAOKE CAGE MATCH is karaoke on impossible mode. Performers try to sing songs they know, but with all-new words generated by A.I. It all happens live, so each song has never been heard before and will never be heard again.

We take live audience requests for combos of SONG and TEXT DATA that our algorithm mixes to rewrite the lyrics. Anyone can sign up to sing or request a new addition to the catalog.

Some examples we've sung at past shows:
- CRAIGSLIST VEHICLE ADS to the tune of COUNTRY ROADS
- NEGATIVE REVIEWS OF PROFESSORS to the tune of VAMPIRE
- BERNIE SANDERS EMAIL SUBJECT LINES to the tune of DON'T STOP BELIEVIN'
- ...and more in this video

Hosted by Jamie Brew and Jenn Schiffer, two tech entrepreneurs on a mission make karaoke harder and worse.

Free admission
Suggested donation - $10

Saison Zero

Your friendly neighborhood TTRPG Meetup is Back! Saison Zero is a monthly tabletop role play game meetup dedicated to introducing folks to games other than just D&D. Light on rules, rich in flavor. This month we’ve got open tables for MÖRK BORG and Star Trek Adventures. Come on down!

MÖRK BORG is a pitch-black apocalyptic fantasy RPG about lost souls and fools seeking redemption, forgiveness or the last remaining riches in a bleak and dying world.
Star Trek Adventures is a table-top roleplaying game based on the Star Trek franchise where new discoveries await explorers of Starfleet.

NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY. This is a beginner friendly event. Rulebooks and other resources will be available. We encourage you to bring dice if you have them and something to write with, but we’ll have extras!

Questions? Reach out to @theRealRickolas on IG or email saisonzeronyc@gmail.com. The event is free, and open to all with an open mind and imagination (who are at least 21)!

nmlstyl album release with Bit Shifter and DonutShoes

Join us at Wonderville, a DIY arcade and bar in New York City, for an unforgettable night of music and celebration at the nmlstyl album release party! This event will feature performances from three incredible artists, each bringing their unique sounds and styles to the stage.

Kicking off the night is Bit Shifter, a New York City-based artist known for his high-impact, low-res music produced using a standard Nintendo Game Boy. Bit Shifter explores the aesthetics of economy, pushing minimal hardware to its maximum potential, creating a bracing distillation of the less-is-more philosophy. As a co-administrator of the 8bitpeoples collective and co-founder of the international Blip Festival event series, Bit Shifter's performances are a must-see for fans of chiptune and electronic music. Learn more at https://bit.shifter.net.

Next up, ηmlstyl (pronounced "animal style") will take the stage to celebrate the release of their new album. Joey Mariano's audiovisual project blends electronic music, guitar, graffiti, code, and pixel art, creating a unique and dynamic live show. Expect a mix of chiptune, surf rock, techno, instrumental hip hop, and retro 80s textures, with influences from video game soundtracks, jazz professionals, and DIY punk. The performance will feature powerful drumming by Yusef Kelliebrew, original music utilizing 90s puzzle game samples, reinvented Pac-Man-style sound effects, retro guitar tones, and lush synth bass patches. Discover more at https://nmlstyl.art.

Closing the show is DonutShoes, a New England-based composer, multi-instrumentalist, instrument builder, and chiptune artist specializing in Game Boy dance music. Wielding link’d-n-sync’d Game Boys armed with LSDJ, DonutShoes delivers jams ranging from sludgy mid-tempo to hyped up chip’n’bass. Are his shoes really made of donuts? You'll have to find out that answer yourself!

Throughout the night, you can also purchase handmade art and apparel by nmlstyl, products by Bit Sifter and DonutShoes. Don’t miss this great lineup at Wonderville!

Boro - Round 3

Join us for the third installment of Boro’s concert series, Boro - Round 3! With a night of live performances from the hottest up-and-coming artists who are breaking ground with their unique sounds, you'll get to see how strong New York’s underground scene still is.

Starting the night, latherappper will take you through his catalog of beats inspired by hip-hop's golden era. Pulling inspiration from artists like Nas, De La Soul, and A Tribe Called Quest his music shows that classic hip hop is alive and well.

Our next artist rivanrules will look to take you in another direction. Also pulling influence from classic hip hop, his eclectic beat selection and strong stage presence will have you bouncing to a new sound unique to only him.

Closing out the night, woodahthreetimes and dnsl.y will share the stage to bring you rap that is not only strong lyrically but also makes you feel luxurious. Their beats being smoother than some other artists, they both have their unique style that comes together on stage for a bond that only music can bring.

Don't miss this opportunity to support new artists while their still new! You'll regret it when they make it big.
